Boulons

Boulons, in French, means "bolts".
This font is definitely, entirely, and undoubtfully an original design.
The idea came to me one of these days I was shopping at Home Depot for
some fix-it things. It took quite a few hours of fine tuning to get
this design to work, though.
As I was drawing each character, I was also trying to figure how one
would solder pieces together, and how it would hold. Nuts and bolts are
not the usual fabric of type today. Even if in the past, the file, and
many other metal tools, were part of the typographer's craft.
Chinoiseries

You may
like Chinese food or not, you must know this kind of typeface. Strikes
that have an unmistakable fortune cookie look. This one is a bit more
modern, and may be more interesting that the zillion other ones.
Chinoiseries Hollow

Grecques

This
typeface could be construed as Lineal, or functionalist, but it is also
a construction of triangles, an artistic parti-pris, to see ho
curves and letterforms can be emulated with sets of triangles.
Originally, I thought about calling it something like "Triangular",
until I realized what I had done was very close to some Greek early
carved scripts.

Monogrammes

This very
peculiar font makes circular two-letters monograms ; uppercase is the
left hand part of the circle, and lowercase the right hand part. Mixed
with a sans-serif font such as Halotique, or Oloron Condensed, it can
be used to create three-cheracters monograms.
Yiddilatin

It looks
like Hebrew or Yiddish, yet it is a latin alphabet.

Baby Face

The Baby
Face typeface is influenced by the 1925 work of Herbert Bayer, a
designer who was part of the Bauhaus movement in Germany.
Baby Face differs a lot from other "Bauhaus" fonts, because it has been
developped from memory, rather than from original prints.
I was surprised when I had finished the font, and compared it to the
actual original design, by the similarities, as well as the real
differences.

TSF & Compagnie

In
French, TSF stands for "Téléphonie sans fil", which
translates as "wireless radio". This font has been designed after some
of the fonts used at the turn of the century, by the Art deco movement.
These fonts also bear characteristics that place them in the Bodoni
heritage : extremely bold face, with hairline serif.

Big Bacon
Big Bacon
typeface is based on the same work as Halotique, a very bold sans serif
face, but with thin horizontal stripes. I created this font from the
same kind of idea as the IBM logo. Although Big Blue corporate font is
closer to a heavy Egyptian typeface. I did not want to outright copy,
but rather, to create my own pin-stripped design.
Display

Here are
fonts all related to the LCD display that inspired them. The first one,
Display, has a look identical to the limited set of characters found in
LCD screens. No real uppercase or lowercase, the 7 digits are too few
to do better. This is a very nice font to write manuals, where print
must match what will be shown on the screen.
The Cristolikid and Diodes light are artistic interpretations of the
classic LCD dislay. They look like it, but they do show the whole
character set, including all symbols. Diodes refers to the LED screens,
a bit unusual today, but still favored for alarm clock radios.

Malabars

Malabars
are small caramel candy bars French kids love. This font is an exercise
at creating grey from black and white, which a font is only able to do.
It looks finely engraved, and can be used for titles, special effects,
etc.
Ruban Dis-Moi

Like
punch type ? Everybody does. I am no exception. When they appeared,
quite a while ago, I was still adolescent, and fascinated by these
small pieces of adhesive plastic everywhere, from store windows to
friends copybooks. No wonder I had to design my own.
Vénitiennes

Like
Venetian blinds ? You got the idea behind this font. But from the idea
to the actual drawing board, it took quite a few hours of tuning. But
the result is quite original, and cannot be emulated with standard
graphic programs.
Zébrures

Zebrures
means litteraly and figuratively, the stripes of a zebra, in French.
Have you noticed the strange effect such stripes have on the eyes ? It
is still simple black and white, but it does add some dynamic to the
fonts, just as much as if they had been in color. I did quite a bit of
research on such lines, at one point, for posters that were xeroxed,
and no solid color could be used. I guess something remained.

Bujardet
Frères

This font
is very precious to me, not only because that is one of the very first
ones I created with Fontographer 3 (a while ago), but also because this
character was used by my great uncles for their posters, at the 1900
Paris World Fair. Their company, Bujardet Frères, was selling
enamel for the then flourishing furniture quarter, Saint Antoine, near
Bastille.

Métropolitain

If you
have ever been to Paris, France, you must have taken the subway, called
the "Metro", at least once. This picturesque underground train bears
the most amazing Art Nouveau stations, created by the genius
Hector Guimard, and this font was used to display station names. Of
course, this font is not the original, as the lettering was custom hand
painted for every panel, and there were variations on the same style. I
tried to keep with the original, made after sketches I took on
location, back in the 70's.

Halloween Match

Halloween
Match is one of the most original typefaces in this collection. Every
letterform is at the same time a small picture, which makes it one of
the very few pi fonts that can be read, and used, on several levels. As
dingbat, it can take part in nice layouts, where pictures play the role
of pictograms. As a legible Roman alphabet, it can still say things.
For instance "Boo". And finally, it can be used to construct small
stories made out of pictures.
Coulures

Whoever
grew up or lived long enough in the US knows the Munsters, a wacky
family of monsters. Between Herman Munster and Grandpa, this is a show
I wouldn't have missed for the world. Better than the Adams Family,
crazier than most shows, I still love it when they appear, late at
night.

SilBooettes

Halloween
comes once a year. This is fact. Once a year, kids want to create
things that are scary. They want to discover new ways to trick or
treat. They want new disguise, and new pumpkin flashlights, because the
one they had last year ran out of batteries (the flashlight, of course,
as for the disguise, it is too tight by now). Kids of all ages will
love this set of ghoulish dingbats, which can be used for much more
than simple Halloween projects. For instance, they make rather nice
bullet lists...
Osselets

Like the
font that displays bones all over the place which every store in town
thinks it's cool to use around Halloween ? Sure. Tired of seeing the
same all the time ? If that is the case, try this one. It does not come
from the same barrel. And may give more attention to your banners,
posters and scary things.
